Physiotherapy

The paediatric physiotherapy service is based at:

The Little Acorns

Child Development Centre

Bridgeview House

Gransha Park

Physiotherapists from the clinic attend the school to carry out physiotherapy on the children who have been referred to the service.  These referrals come from General Practitioners, Community Pediatrics, Community Nurses.

What Is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a partnership with the child, their parents and the physiotherapist.  The physiotherapist's job is to assess the child's level of movement and function.  Then a treatment plan and goals for the individual will be set, after discussion with the child, parents and therapist.  The therapist will teach the child and the parents how to carry out specific exercises which should be carried out at home every day.  Some children may also receive therapy in school, depending on their assessed need.

The therapist will then assess the child and check if they have made improvements.  After this, the home exercise programme may vary slightly.  The therapist is involved with the progression of the exercise, but it is vital that the parents work in partnership ensuring their child carries out the home exercise programme.

If parents are not happy, or feel unsure about the home exercise programme, they can come to the school when their child is receiving their physiotherapy treatment and the physiotherapist will be happy to go over the exercise programme with them.
