A
Music Therapy service is available in Foyle View School every
Thursday and Friday. The service is provided by Catherine
Healey of the Northern Ireland Music Therapy Trust, under the ARIOSO
Project.
A
referral system is in operation in the school whereby referrals are
received from a wide range of staff i.e. Teachers, Classroom
Assistants, Speech and Language Therapists etc.
Once
a referral is received, each pupil is assessed to determine their
needs and if Music Therapy is a suitable intervention.
Following
this, a treatment programme is established outlining aims and
objectives. The therapist prioritises the children with the
greatest needs and determines if an individual or a group programme
is suitable for each pupil.
A
recent staff training day was spent with Catherine, which was very
productive and enjoyable, with many new ideas for staff to
incorporate in their daily lessons.
